IH Farmall 400 Power Stearing Conversion

I have a IH Farmall 400 that was my uncles. Years back, he added a power stearing unit. It is an in-line power assist. As of yet I cannot find any numbers on the unit itself. It basically looks like a cylinder the size of a soup can. The hoses attach to the end of it and the shaft is a strait through setup. It looks like my uncle had to cut the original shaft and add this into the middle of it. It is leaking badly and I was just wondering if this was the standard method of adding the power assist. I will try and take some pictures of it when my camera decides to work. Does anybody have a clue as to what type of unit this might be? Like I said, I am still trying to find any numbers on the unit to find out who made it.
