It seems I can't tell my right from my left yet. The date code is on the right side of the rear frame. There are usually around 6-8 of these codes. One on each of the major castings. Sometimes they don't mean too much. Some parts were stockpiled and allowed to age before machining. My SMTA (ser # 60177) has a code on axel housing of August 5, 1953. The rear frame code is Jan 21, 1954. This tractor was probably produced during the first week of SMTA production which I assume was in February. Guy Fay says that the SM was discontinued on Feb 1, 1954. My rear frame didn't get much chance to cool off, age, get machined, and delivered to the assembly plant.
