You can check the TA clutch with the brakes. I think you will want to have the TA in the direct drive mode (Lever forward) Apply the brakes and really pull the engine hard then pull the TA lever back. If the TA hooks up good it will not slip and should be good. For your second question yes it will free wheel on the low side. Just make sure when your going down hill or parking that you have the TA lever in the forward position. If for example your transporting in 5th low and you throttle down your tractor will free wheel. Do not shift the lever forward under this circumstance. Get yourself a operators manual for your tractor will help you a lot.
