1486s were notorious for bull/pinion gear failure if used for heavy work with duals. Simple case of design overload. That and the silly idea of using Hy-tran for a immersion gear lube :-( Sounds like we have a happy dyno some where, been there done that. A 1066 that is running 3000RPM and shows 250HP when pulled down to 2400RPM is not developing 250HP. The HP reading needs to be taking @ approx. 2800RPM (or 250RPM below high no load idle speed) not the factory rated speed.
I've been working on tractors for many many years and I can make a 90 HP 806 show 175hp if I want to play with the dyno. In any event if the tractor was actually developing that HP and the power was being utilized properly with duals/fluid/weights (slip held to a minimum) the powertrain would fail in a fairly short amount of time, to say nothing of the overheating of the egt, engine oil and cooling system.
