656 Ta shot?

I have a 656 with mechanical Ta. When tractor is put under even a small load, it will just stop forward motion. Doesn't help to pull TA back. Only will go if tractor is down shifted. Will stop even in 1st gear if load is big enough. Does it sound as if the TA is completely shot or is there some kind of adjustment that will help?
