I have an owners manual for the No. 27 mower. It has parts diagrams and parts lists like a parts catalog. It shows that the universal joint yoke (at the rear end of the PTO shaft) just in front of the mower drive is threaded. Therefore, you should be able to unscrew it from the mower drive shaft. If you have universal joints apart, stick a bar though the holes in the yoke and give a few sharp raps with a hammer in direction opposite to rotation. That should break it loose so you can unscrew it.
