Had a similar heartbreak with a happy ending a few years ago. I restored a Super A for a friend and had just fired it up for the first time after a complete engine rebuild. It started right up, I went in the house to call Paul and took the phone out to the garage so he could hear his baby run. By the time I went out to the garage, about 10 minutes into the startup, the engine had stopped cold. I couldn't budge it even with the hand crank. After it cooled down I could still barely turn it by hand. I expected the worst but after quite a bit of troubleshooting I found it to be the governor pinion that was binding in it's bushing (also new). The gear is the smallest in the timing chain so there was a lot of mechanical advantage when it seized. The bushing was deeply scored, apparently a piece of foreign matter found it's way in there. This despite the fact that the block and head were professionally cleaned and I'm a clean freak rebuilder. I don't know if the Allis has a similar design but it's worth a look.
