Dan, Jim J. has a point. Are you talking about that high pitched "rapping" sound when you first start it? The sound is akin to that of a ball-peen hammer rapping on a large anvil? If that is what you mean, then that is completely normal for a direct injected engine. In fact, those old 360s & 414s were nortorious for that noise. Also, many times they will make this sound after they have been pulled real hard for a long time, are good and hot and then allowed to set & idle. My wife used to always bring my breakfast out to the field during spring work, I would just let the thing set there and idle while I ate. At 7am, it was still relatively quite in the countryside save for that tractor setting there "rapping" at idle. Just guessing, Allan
