Another 656 question

This is a solid gear tractor with TA, not hydro. What is the trick to adjusting the shifters so they line up? As long as I just use 1st and reverse I am ok, but trying to get into one of the others is tough. I think thecollars at the top don't line up right so the lever won't move in and out. Tractor has not apparently had the most love during it's life. At least the lower dash panel is gone so you could conceivabley adjust the colars.
