I have thought about doing that with mine, you would also need to add a couple of idler pulleys somewhere in the mix so you could tighten the two short belts. Had troubles at one time keeping the belt on, but once I figured out just exactly what was meant by a half twist on one side and three-quarters twist on the other, I haven't had a speck of trouble, and if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
