The correct engines for the 706 were the D-282 and the D-310 German. The D-310 replaced the D-282 in Nov. '66 at tractor serial number 37237. The D-282 pretty much bolts in, since it's block was very similar to the gas block, but, it was a little underpowered in the 706. The 310 is a very high-quality engine, but it will take a lot of work to put in, and will be very expensive. Parts like the hood will be very hard to find. Just about any IH diesel will work, if you use the right frame rails and modify a few parts. With enough work, you can put in a 361/407 out of the big 06 and 56 series tractors, or a 400 series engine out of the 66/86 series.
