Wayne: The 56 series Farmalls were the very best as a group that IH ever built, and the 656 was no exception. I question the speeds guys are telling you, however I did have 16.9x38 tires on mine and that does make quite a difference. On the starting issue, good heavy 6 volt batteries hooked in series with 1 gauge cables and soldered ends. Read up on the proper operation of glow plugs for a 656 and use them as directed, not as most of your friends will tell you they think. Remember in the diesel evolution these came right after gas start and pup start. DO NOT CONFUSE THE OPERATION OF FARMALL GLOW PLUGS WITH OPERATION OF FORD AND CHEVY PICKUPS, COMPLETELY DIFFERENT. I did my Farming career with 16 different tractors from a Super A to a 1066. I had at least one Farmall tractor from every series Supers to 66 series. Without question 560D and 656D were the most effieient horsepower I ever had on farm. I put 11,000 hours on 560 and 15,000 hours on 656. I can also tell you that repair bills were almost non-existant on each under 10,000 hours. The tractors with few repair bills are the one's to own in my opinion.

It is also very apparent that these folks are getting a lot of very poor and often very dangerous advice fro
