Hugh, I had to go back and check on this. My 140 and 240 heads are both 9 bolt (both after the 65001 split). By the parts book they went from studs to head bolts at C123-39400. My parts books show that the C135 started as 9 bolt in the 330/340 and ended up 14 bolt in the 404. A significant change is listed at C135-100501, but that is not tied to a tractor introduction that I can find so far. My guess is that it's the switch from the 340 to the 404. I know it's not a continuation of the same series as the 340 morphed into the 504 with the new C153, but the 404 got the updated C135 which is our topic at the moment. And I agree, with the 1x0 series tractors traction is usually a bigger problem than HP. Stan(VA).
