Spent a great deal of time on a Farmall 450 diesel. We farmed 300 acres with it and a John Deere 70 diesel. They were pretty well matched for power. We plowed day after day following each other. Of course the Farmall 450 had to have the torque pulled while the John Deere 70 lugged right on though. Problems ... Well, like was said the hydraulics are weak. The pumps go out. The levers get loose. The steering is more like power steering assist. Nothing like the JD 70 .. it always had good steering and hydraulics. The steering shaft went through the radiator. If not alined right it wore holes in the radiator. The torque went out once while we had it. On the diesel the heads were prone to crack. Remember doing that once. Bearing went out in the rear end. Not enough clearance between the casting and the bull gears. Pushed open the bottom of the rearend once. Also, pushed a hole in the transmission case with the same kind of bearing problem. The Deere never really had any of these problems. The 450 was a faster tractor and probably more modern with the foot clutch. People complain about the torque .... but for all the times we used it the little repairs it took was worth it. It handled tasks like pulling the rotary hoe much better due to its speed and the torque. Both were good tractors in their own way.

Since this can be extremely difficult, you may want to fabricate the item or purchase a modern replacement temporarily, but eventually, you s
