My 2 cents… Don’t want to scare you, but from personal experience I’d say you are just buying some time. I had a 966 (414 CID) that showed some obscure signs of water in the oil over the winter. The next spring and summer everything looked ok, but when colder weather hit during fall harvest the o-rings let loose so bad that I could smell the antifreeze from the breather vent when the engine was running. When I tore the engine apart (had about 5600 hrs on it) there was a little cavitation on the sleeves and block near the o-rings. My guess is that in spring and summer the engine was under consistent loads keeping the engine temp near normal while it was running. The metal expanded, the o-rings got more flexible, and the cavitation areas sealed up. When the weather cooled off again, the metal shrunk a little bit, the o-rings got stiffer, and the tractor was neither under a consistent load nor operating temp as much, contributing to varying operating temps and leaking. Hope yours is different, but since you asked…
