Merlin: In actual use those tanks had two problems. Damage to tank if you got into too much mud, especially if mud contained rocks. The second problem was build up of material between tank and tractor chassis. (mud, straw, leaves, etc.) They were also in way of some tractor adjustment and servicing. They were however a factory option. I knew of a 1066 with tank in front of grill, and had an electric pump for supplying main tank. It made for a lot of front end weight change. Another guy I know had a flat tank on top of cab. His biggest problem was leaks from vibration, and leaks of diesel fuel up there made for interesting visual under dusty conditions. I found 150 gal tank on back of pickup was the least troublesome, and it did service more than one tractor. The only large tractors I've seen with good space for enough tank are the articulated tractors.
