Early 706's had the C-263 gas engine or the D-282 glowplug diesel. Later 706's had the C-291 gas or the D-310 German diesel, same engines as 756. The main difference between the two tractors is the shifting. 756 has a much improved shift linkage/ shift pattern. If I had to choose between a 706 and a 756, I would take the 756, for that reason alone.
