I recently purchased a IH 384 diesel tractor that I need to change the oil in this weekend. After doing a little research on this website, I think that I want to use either Delo or Rotella in it. It seems like these are two of the most popular diesel motor oils and I don't think I've seen any negative comments about either one. Besides these are the two that Wally World mainly carries and they are the same price ($6.99 a gallon I believe). Just wondering if anyone had any comments on which is better? Also, what viscosity should I get? I asked up at my local Case-IH dealership and they said that they use 15W-40 viscosity on everything back in the shop. They said that I could also use 30 weight, but I think that I was leaning toward the 15W-40 because I know in gasoline engines, multi-weight oil are recommended over single weight oils by just about everyone. It would make since to me that the same holds true for a diesel engine. The 15W-40 weight would probably be pumped up to the engine faster on startup and would come up to 40 weight oil when the engine got up to full temp to protect it when it is hot. Am I making any sense? Thanks for any comments....
