I always disassemble as completely as possible removing all jets and plugs and plastic parts if any and do an overnite soak of all metal parts in Berryman's Chem dip Carb cleaner (an aggressive chemical cleaner, a 1 gallon soaker can is available at auto stores) to dissolve all the old gas varnish and goo that can be in the internal passages. Then soak in hot water and industrial detergent and rinse and then blow everything out good with compressed air, repeat if needed and then assemble.
