Up the highway from me is a little hamlet of about 75 residents and the hamlet was celebrating 150 years. I was asked to take something up to the tractor show they were having in conjunction with the festivities. Varna, Ontario had lots of activities for the weekend. I decide upon an H and a restored 6'cultivator. Now Varna is about 6 miles from me so Saturady morning I headed off on the H towing the field cultivator. As I passed the corner where the general store used to sit I noticed my neighbour had his H sitting in the yard ready to go,two farms later Johnathan Turner had his grandad's M in the yard ready to go and yet two farms up a W-9 pulled out in front of me. by the time I got to the gate a MTA was on its way out the lane and before I got the 6 miles to Varna another W-9 pulled out behind me. The nostalgia of our neighbour's tractors and all the memories I had of them made it one of the best tractor rides I had ever had. It was not the biggest tractor show I have ever been at ...about 100 tractors and several pieces of machinery, but what was unique was that they all came from a 10 mile radius of Varna. This little, unknown, lost place in time provided a lot of neighbourliness you just can't find and driving the H that 6 miles was a reward for being a country boy. It's amazing what people can bring together and how people can come together. There was a terrific parade. ball tournament, dance, Saturday breakfast,Sunday service, tractor show, car show and lots of visiting, but the tractor ride was the bestpart of all...Mike in Exeter Ontario
