My airpark community bought a used IH574 Diesel a couple of years ago just to mow with. It's been running fine but gradually the power lift of the mower deck had been sluggish, and sure enough it was low on hydr. fluid. We put about 5 gallons in and the dipstick showed about an inch from being full, but then the power steering and even the PTO stopped altogether. We replaced the filter and cleaned the metal screen - it needed it badly - but the three systems: PTO, power steering, and mower deck lift, were all still inoperative. I e-mailed a subscriber to this BBS, Robert Buchanan, asking him for advice, and he sent the following procedure, which we did this morning, and all three systems are now running fine !! Here's his 'system bleed' procedure: "Under the hydraulic filter bowl there are 2 large caps. The thicker of the 2 caps will need to be undone. Remove the spring and flow divider (this did not come out readily, so we ran the tractor for about 5 seconds to push the flow divider valve out into a bucket), then refit the cap loosely and start the tractor. Run until hyd operates a little. Stop tractor remove plug refit flow divider and spring and test." Note: When the flow divider valve fell out, we had to find it's illustration in the manual to determine which way it went back in... it goes back in narrow end first, i.e. the spring goes into the wider shank end of the valve. Hope this helps others with hydraulic woes - and 'Thank You Robert!!'
