12v Conversion Wiring help..!!

I recently used the wiring diagram that was posted for the Farmall 12 volt conversion. With no alternator it worked ok. You turn the key start the engine, turn off key, tractor shuts off. Well, now I hooked up an alternator (the one specified in the posting)..and not only does it appear to not charge, but when I turn the key off, it keeps running. The only way to shut it off is to pull the pigtail on the alternator to terminate the juice to the coil circuit. By the way, the coil is hotter than heck, but the rest of the engine is only warm (after running a half hour). The only variations to the diagram are that I don't have anything running out for a headlamp switch, and I don't have the 10 ohm resistor/warning lamp in the system, and no ballast resistor since it is a 12v coil (new). Please help...I'm at the end of my rope....... gee
