Jim: The casting codes, while they may not be conclusive if close to the change from M to SM. Those dates are the little series of letters and numbers that look like they have a round head screw cast between them. These give the day and month by number and the year by letter X is 1952, Y is 1953, etc. V was not used. These will also tell you if tractor is original if codes are same or two consecutive years. Wider spreads than that would indicate someone has built a tractor from two doner tractors. Should be a code on each cast piece of tractor.
