Carp: KB is right those three tractors (656, 666, 686) have both extreems. Probably the most efficient diesel you could ever own, and the least efficient in the gas version. I'm told by several sources the gassers didn't measure up on power either. My 656D or 560D would run between 1 and 1.5 Can gallons per hour on haying work. That would increase a bit on tillage work, but I don't think they ever hit the 3 gallon mark. I plowed 7-8 inches deep with 656D and 5x16 semi mount plow, and I've seen it go 12 hours on that 33 US gal tank. 656D on 9' haybine 1 Can gallon per hour all day everyday. Our gallon when we had it was 5 of your quarts. By all means wait until you find a diesel.
