You know more than you realize. By removing the cable while the engine was running and the engine died you have identified that the alternator, as it is mounted on your tractor, is NOT charging. After having it tested, you will know if the problem is from the alternator or from the "setup" on the 12 volt conversion. Post your results and good luck.
