Hi, years ago Diesel fuel additives were not as necessary as they are today. The EPA people have been after the oil companies to reduce the sulphur content of Diesel fuel. The sulphur adds lubricity to Diesel fuel which lubes the injector pump and valves and upper cylinder walls. With low sulphur Diesel fuel it is necessary either to add a fuel conditioner or a little engine oil to lube the injector pump. This is extremly important for older tractors that relied on the lubrication from the Diesel fuel. My 2 cents JB
