Hi Jay, I've got a '79 484 and bothe filters are the same metal canister type with the glass sediment bowl underneath and a brass threaded bolt going up through the centre of the filter. I'm almost positive that the owners manual says that both filters are just the same, but the secondary filter (closest to the front of the engine) is only changed infrequently.
