I grew up on a Kubota Diesel and I can tell you that it is one tough tractor. Ours was bought new about 1973 and it's still going strong. Three boys learned how to drive a tractor on that machine and it's teaching the next generation, too. Believe me, we tried to kill that tractor many times and couldn't. Davey even dropped a tree on it (we were having a precision tree cutting contest -- I won). We just lived with the u-shaped hood and 90 degree muffler (both still on it 20 years later). As far as I know, it's never needed anything major, other than the usual (oil filters, etc). It always started when I pulled the lever...Even in the coldest Maine winter. This may not have answered the question, but even now, with a Farmall M and a MF1250 of my own, there will always be a soft spot in my heart for the Kubota down home. Would I buy one? Heck yes (if I could afford one!) After all, all tractors now are Japanese tractors, why not go with the best?
