If I understand correctly. That long tube that looks like a resister is the condensor - capacitor. It is not supposed to be white and crumbling. If the condensor is breaking down you are probably getting some arching at the points. You are a bit short on the spark. About twice that distance would be great. Minimum, I would replace the condensor and the points then check the quality of the spark. Depending on your confidence and mechanical ability, I would just purchase a kit; points, condensor and coil and rebuild the whole thing. This will save another tear down if the coil is weak or breaks down after the tractor warms up.
