Hi as Aces said there is a pin to pull to allow the fast hitch to float.
If my memory is correct, stand at the rear of the tractor and underneath at the top of the left lift arm should be a pin with a loop handle on it. Pull this pin and it will let the lift arms float. Leave your hydraulic control valve in the "D" position. The "S" and "D" positions were only used for remotes. "S" being for single acting cylnders with only one hydraulic hose and "D" for double acting cylinders with two hydraulic hoses.
