Don: To see if the problem is generator or regulator try this. With the engine running at a moderate speed connect a jumper wire from ground to "Field" terminal and watch your charge rate. If it charges with the jumper your problem is likely the regulator. If you have no charge the problem is likely the generator. After this quick test replace the regulator if it's faulty or have the generator repaired by a generator shop. You will be better off with a local repair than a Mexican rebuilt. This comes from over 50 years experience. Good Luck, Ken
