Before converting it to 12V, I'd recommend you check all the connections, cables, cable ends etc. 6V works just as good as 12V if everything is clean, bright and tight. Battery cables should be O gauge with no corrosion. Sometimes, the corrosion will get in under the outer coating on the cables where you can't see it. Starter switch contacts are another suspect area to look at. Good luck and if you need, check the archives on this site for some well thought out ways to go about doing a 12V conversion.
