If you want to convert it you need to get a one wire gm alternator. Go to a starter /alternator shop and tell them what you want. Remove the old generator and flip the mounting bracket upside down. Grind a little off of the right side of the mounting bracket to allow the alternator to roll in towards the valve cover pan. You will know where when you try to mount the alternator. Bolt in place. Run a wire back to the gauge only reverse the side where it enters the gauge. Install a resistor to the points to drop the voltage to 6 volts. Replace the lights with 12 volt bulbs. Add your 12 volt battery and ground it on the negative side. Good luck-It isn't really hard to do.
