Bob's exaclty right. Biggest problem with these brakes is the fact they have worked too well for too many years while being neglected. I've seen LOTS of Super H's/300/350/460's that the outer brake cover has discolored or scorched paint from the heat. The larger brakes on the SM/SM-TA/400/450/560 didn't seem quite a finicky. They weren't near as smooth & progressive in operation as the band brakes IH used before them but they really can lock up the wheel when needed if they're working right.
