Just yesterday I was talking face to face with the chap that posed the same question here about two months ago, and asked him if he ever got an answer about this.

The feedback from YT that he got suggested that the special designation was used when engines "borrowed" from the IH parts division--engines that were used for implements or possibly stationary power units--were installed in the Super C.

Yesterday the fellow told me that another answer he got indicated the "special" came from a modification to the engine while it was on the assembly line perhaps coming from a bulletin handed down from the design department with changes not yet appearing on the engine's drawings and official spec sheets.
