Alls you have to do is if its removed lay it on the RH side looking at the trip take the wire out of the distributor cap and hold it about 1/4 " away from the screw on the side that the switch wire would hook up to and give it a trip or spin the opisite way also and if its good you should see a spark at the wire end. Color depends on coil, points cleanlyness and so on.
