You say it has a alternater on it, is it a delco one wire? If so all you need is a small resistor in line and go direct to the battery, the delco one wire has a internal regulater, that is what most go to when converting. Do not hook the 12 volt alternater to the original regulater. Remember if not already done you have to change all lights to 12volt also.Before you start it say the voltage is 12 after starting and rev it up to kick the alternater in the voltage should jumt to 12 1/2 to 13 1/2volts and stay there not go up and down sounds like you have a regulater problem
