SproutW, I just started digging into a '40 M that sounds like it had a similar history -- I think it got left out for a few years and rain/snow got into the cyclinders via the exhaust manifold. It was *seriously* rusted frozen. I had to cut through the sleeves with a band saw to recover the connecting rods. The block needs new sleeves, pistons, and valves, but the block itself was ok and the crank/camshafts are hunky dory too. So, other than having to drop something around $500 for rebuild parts, I think you and I should both be able to get our M's back into running order. Good luck! - David
