Hi Bill, Removing the dirt, mud, rust and scale is the hardest job to do. I always had the engine blocks degreased at a nearby machine shop. They installed new freeze plugs and cam bearings too. I took a few into where I worked and steamed cleaned them. This machine shop has been here for 75 years and does good work. All their machinists are ASE certified, most are master certified Once you get that grease and dirt off the engine is nice and clean for assembly. Very easy to repaint too. I never found any of that radiator Stop-Leak worth the effort. It usually does what you found, stop up the radiator. Another problem with radiators is most people do not change their antifreeze. Every other year I think it should be drained and flushed and install new antifreeze solution. It loses its rust inhibitor and then starts plugging up the tubes. There is some antifreeze on the market that is good for 5 years, I've never used it. I always make a 50/50 solution. It protects down to -30 degrees and it very seldom goes below 0 degrees here in eastern MD. Ten years ago it went down to -15. Good Luck, Hal
