I was just going to grab 3gpm to run the power steering and dump the rest right back into the original tank, still using the original hydraulic pump for any remotes if ever needed.

I doubt if I'll ever use a remote with that old tractor again anyway.

Couldn't I just rig up a low-pressure proprietary valve to ease the load on the live pump? Couldn’t I set it up for both pumps to use the same oil in that old tank?
