Paul, Like stated in other post, the glow plugs are wired in series type circuit, and the last plug must be wired to ground to complete the circuit. When all is correct, the indicator (inside looks like a coil of wire) will start to glow red. When it is "red hot", all the glow plugs will also be hot, and time to start the engine. If the glow plugs have not been used for awhile, the indicator will smoke as it burns off the accumulated junk/dust/oil. Some of the indicators had a larger round hole in the center and could be used as a cigarett lighter. With all the new parts system should work. Be sure all connections are clean, as the glow plugs do draw several amps of power.
