Allan Yes you did miss a chapter. I will get a lot of comments about this, but I go by what I see and prove for myself. When Harvester that is how all the IH people refered to the compony as. When Harvester came out with the 300 and 400 series engines in the 66 series tractors in 1971 we had problems with was knowen as slober ( oil and Unburnt fuel) out the exhaust. We first thought a lot of thinks. Unfortunatly engines got overhauled when thet di not need it and still slobered. It came down to oil as did the carbon in the gas engines different story same ending. The fix was to put the right oil we used IH #1 diesel oil in the engine and about 1-1/2 hours on the dyno at full load no more slober out the exhaust even if the hard wook backed off they stayed clean. If a person could find the old service buletons from back then this would be in them some place. As I said I will most likly get alot of slack of this but I believe what I prove to myself I did it enough times to believe it. Same goes for the gas 6 cylinder gas engines I remember one 656 with 100 hours on it new would not pull 50 HP on the dyno pulled the head cleaned the carben out put head back on new plugs IH #1 gas engine oil, no problem with 65HP no more plugs run for years. When this all started I went to a Harvester oil seminar ther story was that not crud the same. So oil componies got there crud oil any place they could get it and one formlar so did not make the same oil. Harvester made sure they crud oil came from the same crud oil so one formaler one oil.
