splitting a 1256

need to split a 1256 to replace torque. do i need to drain the oil out of the rear end or is this a separate area. also, is there any interal parts that need to be unhooked, or do you just ease it off and it is on a splined shaft. ps, i have 2 1256's. one row crop and one standard. standard is a rare bird, i think only 1200 to 1500 made possibly. thanks for help and comments
