You likely had a cutout relay before, not a regulator. The cutout relay only has one coil and contact set in it to disconnect the generator from the battery when the generator is not charging(tractor not running) thus preventing the battery from discharging when the tractor is down. You can easily convert to the regulator, but you will not need the high/low charge switch anymore. Just leave it in place, using it for the lights only. On the regulator, "G" or "gen" terminal is connected to the G terminal on the generator. The F or field terminal is connected to the F terminal on the generator. The "B" or "Bat" terminal is connected to the ammeter terminal. The other terminal of the ammeter is connected to the battery. There may be other wires connected to the terminals of the ammeter for lights, etc. Also, most regulators have 4 terminals, three on one side and one on the other. The 4th terminal is usually marked "L" for lights or load. It is no different than the B terminal. It's just a place to connect lights or accessories you may want to run. Nothing needs to be connected to the L terminal. Hope this helps, Bob M or others may want to add to this.
