Basicly evolutionary changes. The basket was all flat panels on the M-12 instead of a curved basket (rounded side corners and such), the fan was a different design, the lift assist springs and rigging was different (the M-11 springs were bigger but I think they had about the same tension), and some internal improvements. Basicly just looking at it, the basket shape and fan shape would be the two easiest identifier features.
