I rebuilt one last winter. One of the high-pressure gaskets had blown. I'm not very experienced with hydraulics but this rebuild was easy. I didn't need to replace the oil seal but that doesn't look too difficult. I think you can expect all the rebuild parts (springs, balls, gaskets and the oil seal to come to less than $40. Look in the archives for methods on removing the pump shaft female coupling (the slotted interface on the pump that the coupling - the bar with the sleeves that goes between the trans and the pump - fits into). The Blue Ribbon and I&T manuals talk about drifting the coupling out after locking the pump gears with 1/8" flat stock. I think this is a mistake. When I tried it I chipped the female coupling. There are posts in the archives about hooking up an pneumatic impact wrench to a made-up male fitting. Put the male fitting into the female coupler with the unit still attached to the reservoir and full of oil and the resistance of the oil will give enough back pressure to spin off the female coupling. I haven't tried it but it sounds less risky than the drifting method. If your local library can do interstate library loans, you can get a copy of the IH Blue Ribbon Service Manual "Hydraulic Lift-All for Farmalls H, HV, M, MV, MD & MDV" (the IH number on the cover is GSS-5034) -- call number is 629.225 from the State Library of LA. Careful while dropping the pump. I've seen posts talking about using lengths of allthread to lower it down. The thing is _heavy_ but I would imagine the allthread method would take forever. I used a rolling jack and blocks of wood. Safer and smarter still would be to have an assistant to help with the balancing as it comes down. Happy rebuilding.

Memories of an IH Super A When I was ? up to 10, I worked on my Papaw's farm in Greeneville, TN every summer. As I grew older (7), it was the thrill of my day to ride or drive on the tractor. My Papaw had a 1954 IH Super A that he bought to replace a Cub. My Papaw raised "baccer" (tobacco) and corn with the Super A, but the fondest memory was of the sawmill. He owned a small sawmill for sawing "baccer" sticks. The Super A was the powerplant. When I was old enough (7 or 8), I would get up early and be dressed to
