6-volt blues

Just purchased my first tractor, a 1950 farmall h. Got the generator rebuilt by a local who told me it was original. Also I purchased an owners/operators manual from binder books. With all that said I installed the generator, and found that my battery wasnt getting any charge. In going through the wiring diagram the wire leads from the generator to a voltage regulator, which is not on my tractor, So can anyone out there tell me if by this year the regulator was built into the generator, or am i missing parts?
