Hi Fred - Reason you don't want to spin those 4 cyl engines much beyond the nameplate RPM is the cranks are not counterbalanced, and they ride in only 3 main bearings. Spin these motors much beyond design speed and unbalanced forces on the crank and rods will overstress these parts AND the bearings. Not hard figure what can happen then...
