Pull the plugs and see if it turns over. It should turn over by hand very easily. Try rotating it by the fan if you don't have a crank. If it is still seizing it is definately your pistons. Since the problem seems to be age, I would be carefull putting a lot of pressure to it. The rings will crack easily. Use a thin oil treatment through the spark plug holes and let it sit.
If it has been seized for a long time you may find taking the head off the easiest way to service the valves. At least then you can do a complete job rather than a half assed one.
