Congratulations Paul! You've gotta be a happy guy right now! Your tale is reminiscent of a somewhat similar experience I had last year: My tired old minivan (2.2 liter 4 cyl, 2 bbl Holley) was running poorly. First noticed the fuel mileage dropping off. Then the engine became harder to start and would occasionally stumble when shifting gears (5 speed manual). The stumbling slowly worsened to the point where it would pop thru the carb, buck and sometimes stall simply by stepping on the gas. Thinking it was a carb problem I removed and rebuild the carb (not an easy task on that engine!). I got a bit of improvement, but it still ran poorly and then quickly worsened again. Finally one rainy afternoon at work I could not get it to start at all and had to have a buddy tow me home. Out of desperation swapped a bunch of ignition parts with parts from a one of my kid’s cars. The van immediately sprang to life and ran better than it had in a couple of years. Thru the process of elimination I discovered the ignition wires - despite looking like new - were “leaky” and had been the source of the problem all along. ...Bob M
